We witnessed the first African American to be elected President of the United States. It seems only a few short years ago that Martin Luther King Jr. made his historic speech, “I Have a Dream”. I think that part of that dream was reached last night. President Elect Obama was voted into office not as a result of the color of his skin, but the content of the message that he brought to the American people. Whether you agree or disagree with Barak Obama is not the point. Our nation has made great strides in moving past our prejudices of the past and moving on to living out our creed that all men (people) are created equal. The election is over and it is time for us as a nation to come together. I want to encourage everyone to begin praying for President Elect Obama and that God would give him wisdom to lead this great nation. We are in the midst of some of the most difficult times in American history and President Elect Obama will need our prayers and God’s wisdom to lead us over the next four years.

I probably have not looked at that document since high school, so for the first time in a long time I began to read the document again. One line in particular sticks out to me every time I read it. The Declaration states, " We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."
